HAVE YOU EVER BEEN PRESENT BUT NOT REALLY PRESENT AT ALL?

My son sat only feet away from me the other day. Apparently, he was pouring his little heart out. The only problem was, I didn't hear him say a single word.

Not even one!

I jokingly refer to my ability to tune out undesirable noise as my mommy superpower. But, there was nothing heroic about my actions that day. Sadly, I played the villain without even knowing it.
